DDAL 4-5 The Seer
All right Game Fans, Season 4 of Adventurer’s League (The Curse of Strahd Story Arc) rolls on through with DDAL 4-5, The Seer. The characters finally push out of the town of Orasnou and explore a little bit of Barovia proper. During their exploration they encounter the Vistani, a mysterious people of sinister reputation. What are these mysterious Vistani up to?
DDAL 4-3 is designed for 1st thru 4th level characters, with an average party size of 5 suggested. For Adventurer’s League play, the level range is a hard ceiling, and characters of 5th level or higher are not playable in this adventure. This adventure is built in 3 parts. It should take about 2 hours start to finish. Remember to bring your D & D Survival Kit with you when you show up to game. (This adventure is optimized for 3rd level characters, so plan accordingly)
This adventure is optimized for 4th level characters.
Part 1: The Bogaravs
The adventure starts with the characters venturing outside of Orasnou for the first time since they’ve entered Barovia. They encounter the Bogarav family of Vistani, who need help with a family matter. The characters can certainly help the Vistani with their family matter and explore a little of the cursed land of Barovia in the process.
Part 2: The Moslavarics
The family matter that the Bogaravs have requested assistance with brings the characters into contact with another Vistani family, the Moslavarics. The Moslavarics are much less friendly than the Bogaravs and they reveal a complication in the task the Bogaravs have asked for help with. The characters have a few choices for how to proceed, but they are on a bit of a clock.
Part 3: The Standing Stones
The characters have to track the complication into the deep woods. Ferocious monsters have been conjured to prevent any interruptions to a dark ritual. The characters will have to overcome these guardians if they are going to discover what exactly is going on. Once the characters have handled this problem, the adventure is over and the characters have time to rest and level up (if applicable).
Aftermath:
So as a character in the adventurer’s league, you have three primary rewards you’re aiming for, and the occasional extra bit of stuff. Let’s go over your Downtime Days, your Experience Points, Your Gold Pieces, and your renown. If you’re not playing in an Adventurer’s League group, you don’t need to track these on your log sheet, but keep an eye on your numbers.
· Experience Points: Completing this adventure will net your character between 635 and 850 experience points. If you’re playing this after DDAL 4-4, you’ll have between 2,360 and 3,350 experience points. You’re probably a level 3 character knocking on the door of level 4, if you haven’t gotten there.
· Gold Pieces: This one’s a little trickier, because GP is calculated based off of the number of players at a table. There’s enough treasure available that you should certainly be able to pick up some extra supplies or replace ones that you expended during the adventure. Keep an eye out for any handy magical items that may show up.
· Downtime Days: This one’s easy. Everyone gets 10 downtime days for playing through this adventure. You should end up with 55 downtime days if you played DDAL 4-4 before this adventure.
There are two special usages for downtime days available in this adventure, so make sure you check with your DM if you want to utilize them.
· Renown: Each character is going to get one point of renown.
Story Award: Everyone who completes this adventure gains the Demiplane of Dread story award if they don’t already have it. There is a way to pick up another story award along the way, but that depends on what the characters end up doing.
So now that you’ve completed The Seer, check your character, level up if you need to, pick up additional gear and get ready for the next adventure.
DDAL 4-6 The Ghost
Season 4 of the Adventurer’s League continues the Curse of Strahd story arc and picks up with The Ghost. Grudges and feuds are a part of the culture of Barovia, but sometimes these ancient animosities need to be put aside for the future. This is a hard task for some, and the assistance of an ancient creature may be needed to help heal these old wounds.
DDAL 4-4 is designed for 1st thru 4th level characters, with an average party size of 5 suggested. Part 1: The Hungry Forest
The adventure starts with the characters on the road. The Hungry Forest is an interesting place full of unusual flora, fauna and fey creatures. The characters encounter a party of elves who are in a particular foul mood. The characters have the opportunity to help ease that mood and rescue some missing people as well. The forest is a hungry one, and there are a lot of potential evils to overcome.
Part 2: Haggling with the Hag
Jeny Greenteeth is the Hag in question and the characters may find themselves encountering her (possibly for the second time depending on how much AL they’ve played). In exchange for dealing with a pesky ghost, she offers her services as a spellcaster at a later date, should they find themselves in need. She’s naturally not telling the whole story, but she does give the characters enough information to pursue the problematic ghost.
Part 3: Voices of the Past
The Ghost in question was a noble from Phlan before his unseemly death. Like some ghosts, there are multiple ways to deal with his death, but putting him to rest will require some specific knowledge. Attempting to do so will draw the attention of the Dark Lord of Barovia himself who will attempt to keep them from having such an easy time of things. After this has been handled, the characters are presented with two choices for how to proceed with the rest of the season. They can escape Barovia, or they can gain insight into the Demiplane (and receive a pile of experience points).

And those are the next two adventures in Season 4. We’ll be back next week to take a gander at the next two adventures (and start the upper level track). For those playing along at home, that’s The Innocent (DDAL 4-7) and The Broken One (DDAL 4-8). Game on, Game Fans.
