Battletech House Kurita Command Lance

Hey Folks, we’re back with another product review. Today, my friends, we have the House Kurita Command Lance. Freshly released by Catalyst, the Kurita Command Lance has a supplementary release, the Hunter Lance coming soon. Let’s Break It Down.

Contents

4 Plastic Mechs! (Note, that like all of CGL’s boxed releases, these come fully assembled and ready to play right out of the box). You get a Shiro, a Rokorubi, a Grand Dragon, and an Akuma. All but the Grand Dragon are new sculpts for this box. I’ve taken a bunch of pictures of these. Our camera setup remains questionable.

4 Alpha Strike Cards (Dual sided) that feature 2 versions of each mech in tue pack.

4 double sided Mechwarrior Pilot Cards that feature notable pilots of these machines.

Breakdown:

This box is fantastic. The house specific force packs are very cool combinations of design and flavor. The Kurita specific units share tue samurai armor aesthetic that characterizes dark age and later Kurita designs, and the Akuma and Grand Dragon are iconic exemplars.

It's a very solid lance with the Akuma serving as a heavy Brawler. The Rokorubi is full of tricks, while the Shiro is an ideal Command mech for a lance or larger formation. The Grand Dragon is an iconic Cavalry mech that supports the rest of the Lance.

Two of these designs are firmly in the clan invasion era, while the Shiro and Rokorubi are firmly Dark Age designs. They can be utilized in different, but you will need to grab Alpha strike cards off the Master Unit List for off era versions for the Shiro and Rokorubi.

AS Point Cost (in the box) 177 for the most expensive cards in the box.

You can always check the Master Unit List for other versions of these four designs and that can dramatically affect the point values.

Battle Value isn’t calculated for these boxes, and i would suggest you use the Master Unit List to identify what the BV of your force (and specific variations) is.

Thoughts: Production on these mechs looks pretty good. There’s a little bit of flashing to clear out if you’re going to make these showcases, but it’s fairly easy to clear. None of the barrels seem bent, and you’re going to have an easy time getting these ready.  Note: the Rokorubi has two different arms featuring different sword grips.

Overall Rating:

4.5 stars.

This is a very solid box of mechs from Catalyst. It's an excellent combination of Command units for House Kurita and gives a new player a lot of choice for Ilclan Era force building. Earlier eras may take a little finagling, but you'll be fine.

They're really fun minis and look like a blast to paint. (Hopefully you can see ours painted up next week on our social media.)

Currently, it’s priced at $34.99, on the Catalyst Game Labs Store and these have hit local retailers. Buy locally when you can
