VoidBreaker (Spoiler Free Review)

Quick one today, but boy howdy a good one. So, We got an advanced copy of VoidBreaker from Catalyst Game Labs and this is our Spoiler Free Review.  One, don't grab spoilers.  This is an espionage story with a couple of different mysteries attached to it.  Save yourself the joy of those mysteries.  Note, this one's written by Bryan Young, and it's a very interesting read. Buckle Up, Buckaroos.

Clan Sea Fox has been actively working on solving Grey Monday since the crisis engulfed the Inner Sphere. They finally find the location of the most important man in the Inner Sphere who could solve the problem, Tucker Harwell.  With a location and a mission, the Sea Fox Watch tasks agents to retrieve Tucker and bring him into the fold.

This kicks off a slow burn cat and mouse chase of old fashioned intelligence gathering and some very solid trade craft.  Unfortunately for the Sea Foxes, they're not the only ones on the trail, and there are some heart stopping twists and turns along the way.

Mercenaries, Samurai, Ghost Bears, even evil Corporations stand in the way of this mission, and the looming shadow of the First Lord is cast from Terra as the Sea Foxes desperately work every angle they can to find Harwell and restore the HPG network.

This an excellently paced novel, with some very fun characters (old and new).  Bryan has stretched his skills and this is a very different book from either A Question of Survival or Without Question.  It's a fun read, with a pulse to it that pulls you in and keeps you moving.

The events of VoidBreaker will reshape the Inner Sphere in profound ways that I can only imagine.  Whether that's a good thing or a terrible thing is up for you to decide, fellow BattleTech Enthusiasts. You can pre-order it directly from the author here, and as it gets closer you'll be able to order it at your local book store, Amazon, and the Catalyst Game Labs webstore.
