Force & Destiny

Hey Game Fans, we’re back with another itty bitty update about one of our favorite things in the universe, the Star Wars RPG from Fantasy Flight Games. Now this is a family of Role-playing games that use the same system, meaning that they are interactive with each other. You can build a party of characters composed of a couple of rebels, a couple of edge of the empire criminals, and a force user in hiding for example. Now each game has a unique mechanic that sets it apart from the others, but they aren’t incompatible. As we dig deeper into this series, we’ll cover how those individual mechanics work, and try and help you put together a group that features these diverse characters.

Today’s feature item is the force and Destiny Role-playing Game. The name might be a dead give away, but this game focuses on force users in the period of time between Episode III and Episode IV. The Empire has a pretty firm hand on the galaxy and the Jedi are extinct. Characters in this time have a constant struggle to make it in a galaxy that wants them destroyed or used to further someone else’s agenda. These are truly the darkest times…

If you’re coming from Force and Destiny from my Edge of the Empire stuff, there’s a lot to add value to your Edge of the Empire experience, but remember you can use Force and Destiny as its own stand alone game.

What’s in the book:

  • New Backgrounds and Moralities
  • 7 new Species
  • 6 new careers with three specializations apiece
  • New Skills and Talents
  • New gear, equipment, vehicles and starships.
  • A host of new Force abilities and new Force Talents
  • Powerful new ways to use the force
  • Details on the Jedi and the Sith
  • An introductory adventure focused on Force Users

And a wealth of information about incorporating the Force into your Star Wars gaming experience.

Best of all from my perspective, because the rules are so similar, a lot of the information i’ve written about Edge of the Empire is applicable to Force and Destiny. You use the same dice, and the game mechanics are virtually identical with a couple of specific differences that shift the focus of this game to the Force. We’ll cover those details in greater detail in the coming months, but we’ll give you a tight look at the specifics for Force and Destiny alongside our coverage of Edge of the Empire (And we’re going to dive into Star Wars Armada soon ™ .

We still need to finish the Edge of the Empire Corebook, and that will give a baseline for comparison with Force and Destiny (and eventually, maybe Age of Rebellion). In the coming months look for a breakdown of the vehicle rules and a breakdown of the absolutely amazing GMing chapter of the Edge of the core book. (no seriously, it’s one of the best written chapters on GMing i’ve ever read and is an absolutely amazing resource for everybody.)

So keep an eye on this spot for more Star Wars content and we’ll hopefully keep bringing you fantastic content. If you’re looking for some folks playing this wonderful game, be sure to check out the Hydian Way podcast, the redemption Podcast, the limited run Never Tell me the Odds show on Saving Throw, and of course Pencils and Parsecs on Hyper RPG. It’s a big galaxy far, far away and it’s full of amazing stories to tell. Game On, Game Fans.
