Hey Folks, quick hits today, we're looking at Fox Tales by Bryan Young. We're covering the first two stories The Secret Fox and Fox Patrol this week. (Next week we'll cover the next two stories). Note: These were originally entries in Shrapnel, and have been collected for the reader.
The Secret Fox
The Fox Patrol mercenary company has humble beginnings with a lone technician who has big dreams. This is a story that resonates with a lot of folks, and honestly, it should. Who hasn't been stuck in a dead end job, passing the time and dreaming of better things?
Now, set this dreamer in the Battletech universe with giant robots, pirates, and gun fights. What's not to love?
I enjoyed this work (I usually do with Bryan's work).
(Rating will wait until the end of the Anthology).
Fox Patrol
The second in our anthology is the first mission of the eponymous Fox Patrol Mercenary command. Leaning into the hard knock life of scrappy underdogs with a solid foundation family narrative, this story is a lot of fun. The characters are enjoyable, the action is delightfully paced and it feels like it really lives in the setting.
We'll be back next week to cover The Fox and the Bear and A Fox on Galatea. You can pick up the Anthology at your preferred book vendor of choice. Buy locally if you can.
