Age of Sigmar Holiday Bundles (2nd Update)

 Warhammer Holiday Bundles

(Update, thanks to some help from Ben Johnson, we found the Aleguzzler Gargant, and are updating to reflect that missing information)

Update 2 (We have final pricing info for both the US and UK prices)

Hey, we’re going to be breaking down the holiday bundles this year from Games Workshop.  These are the Age of Sigmar Bundles and we’re going to take a look at the point values of your new toys for Christmas (Or equally appropriate winter celebrations). Now a reminder that none of these toys pass the Christmas morning test.  Once you’ve gotten the kit you still need to get them out of the box, cut them free and put them together.

This means if you’re doing this for a Christmas present for a new gamer or trying to placate the kid you’re not sure what to buy something for (and their parents said something about Warhammers) you might want to do a little bit more digging and research.  You’ll be happier, they’ll be happier, and maybe games will get played (around new years).

Also remember your hobby checklist

  1.  Safe Workspace

  2. Models

  3. Clippers and Cutters

  4. Glue

  5. Primer

  6. Paint (and Brushes)

All right, let’s dive in and see what we can see

Bundle #1

Fatesworn Warhost

Okay, this boxed set contains the following models (and their price in U.S./UK Currency)

  1. 20 Kairic Acolytes (50$/£30)

  2. 10 Tzaangors (44$/£27.50)

  3. 3 Tzaangor Enlightened (48$/£30)

  4. 1 Gaunt Summoner (30$/£17.50)

  5. 1 Lord of Change (140$/£85)

Total Price 312$/£190 Retail

Bundle Price: 210$/£125 Retail

What does this breakdown look like for points. Let’s see

  • Lord of Change(Leader, Behemoth) can also be assembled as Kairos Fateweaver.  380 points/400 (for Kairos)

  • Gaunt Summoner (Leader)is 240 points

  • Tzaangor Enlightened can also be assembled as Tzaangor Enlightened on Disks of  Tzeentch and Tzaangor Skyfires.  They come in groups of 3 to 9, and Enlightened are 100 points per 3/180 points per 3 for Enlightened on Disks/200 points per 3 for Skyfires.

  • Tzaangors (Battleline)  Can be taken in squads of 10-30. 180 points per 10.

  • Kairic Acolytes (Battleline) Can be taken in squads of 10-30. 100 points per 10.  You can build this is as 1 large squad of 20 or 2 small squads of 10 each.

Totals=

Points:  1200-ish at the high end, if you build the most expensive options available.

Verdict:  This is a rock solid core of building your Disciples of Tzeentch army.  In the US, the Lord of Change is almost the cost of last year’s holiday bundle by itself.  It gives you two (possibly three) battleline choices and the core of units you’re going to want to get more of.  If you’re looking to get into this army, this is a head start.

Bundle #2

Barak-Nar Skyfleet

Okay, this boxed set contains the following models (and their price in U.S./UK Currency)

  1. Brokk Grunggson, Lord Magnate of Barak-Nor (40$/£25)

  2. 6 Endrinriggers (88$/£55)

  3. 2 Grundstok Gunhaulers (100$/£60)

  4. 1 Arkanaut Frigate (80$/£50)

Total Price 308$/£190 Retail

Bundle Price: 210$/£125 Retail

What does this breakdown look like for points and PL?  Let’s see

  • Brokk Grunggson, Lord-Magnate of Barak-Nor (Leader) 240 points.  (I suspect there will be a rule in this box that allows Brokk to count as an Endrinmaster in Dirigible suit).

  • Endrinriggers come in squads of 3-12 and are 100 points per three.  They can also be assembled as Skywardens at the same price in the same squads.  These are Battleline if your general is an Endrinmaster in Dirigible Suit).

  • Grundstok Gunhaulers are single model units and are 150 points apiece.

  • Arkanaut Frigate (Behemoth) is a  single model unit and is 250 points.

Totals=

Points:  990 on the high end.

Verdict:

This one is a hard sell for me, personally.  Unless the Brokk comes with a note that lets you field Endrinriggers as Battleline, this isn’t a valid force playing out of Barak-Nar.  It doesn’t have any Battleline units without that change, and thus it’s hard for me to recommend as the starting place for a new player.  From the Hobby side, the skyboats are very tricky to paint without using subassemblies, and that may be a trick a brand new hobbyist has a hard time with.  Pass for a new player, but it’s a wonderful addition to a player with an existing collection of Kharadron Overlords.

Bundle #3

Fungal Loonhorde

Okay, this boxed set contains the following models (and their price in U.S./UK Currency)

  1. 6 Rockgut Trolls (120$/£70)

  2. 1 Dankhold Troggoth (65$/£40)

  3. 1 Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig (35$/£22.50)

  4. 14 Squig Hoppers (50$/£30)*

* (Squig Hoppers usually come in boxes of 10, so this is wonky given that they usually comes in units of 5)

Total Price 270$/£162.50 Retail

Bundle Price: 200$/£120 Retail

What does this breakdown look like for points Let’s see

  • Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig (Leader)  110 points

  • Dankhold Troggoth can be taken in groups of up to 3, and are 220 points each.  This model can also be assembled as a Dankhold Troggboss who has the Leader keyword and is 300 points.

  • Rockgut Troggoths come in groups of 3 to 12, and are 160 points per 3.  (These become battleline if your general is a Dankhold Troggboss)

  • Squig Hoppers come in groups of 5 to 20, and are 90 points per 5.  If your army general is a Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig or Mangler Squig, these can be taken as battleline.  They can also be assembled as Boingrot Bounders, which are 100 points per 5.  (Boingrot Bounders are not Battleline under any circumstance)

Totals=

Points:  1000-ish on the high end.  This one is harder to calculate because the squig riders are coming in a weird unit size.  This assumes you build the most expensive units you can, and your points may vary.

Verdict: This one is an interesting box.  By running the Dankhold Troggboss and the Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig as leaders, you can make the other units in the box battleline depending on who you make the general. Both have very different playstyles and give a new player a lot of options on what/how to play next.

Bundle #4

Meatgrinder Warglutt

Okay, this boxed set contains the following models (and their price in U.S./UK Currency)

  1. 1 Tyrant (35$/£20)

  2. 12 Ogre Gluttons (96$/£60)

  3. 4 Leadbelchers (40$/£25)

  4. 4 Ironguts (40$/£25)

  5. 1 Ironblaster (35$/£22.50)

  6. 1 Aleguzzler Gargant (*/*) (The Aleguzzler Gargant is not available for sale any longer, and the Sons of Behamat Giants are packaged in pairs.  An Approximate Price is 62.50$ /£37.50)

Total Price 298.50-ish $/£190 Retail

Bundle Price: 210$/£125 Retail

What does this breakdown look like for points and PL?  Let’s see

  • Tyrant (Leader)  160 points

  • 12 Ogre Gluttons (Battleline)  These come in groups of 3 to 12, and cost 120 points for 3 (you can save points if you buy 12 in a single choice).

  • 4 Ironguts can be taken in squads of  4 to 12 and are 220 points per 4. These become battleline if your general is a GUTBUSTER (The Tyrant is).

  • 4 Leadbelchers can be taken in groups between 2 and 12, and are 80 points per 2.  If you take a group of at least 4 and your general is a GUTBUSTER, they become battleline.

  • Ironblaster (Artillery) is a single model unit that runs 120 points

  • Aleguzzler Gargant (Behemoth)is a single model unit. 160 points.  (You will find the warscroll for him on the downloads page for the mancrusher gargants in the Sons of Behamat on the GW site itself or in the Gloomspite Gits battletome).

Totals=

Points:  1300-ish on the high end.  This one is harder to calculate because you can save a few points by running your gluttons as a big group as well, but that’s a personal choice.

Verdict: Instant sale.  This is still a whopping 1300 points of Ogors to play with.  It’s very much the type of army i would be looking for if i were starting Age of Sigmar with multiple battleline units in the box, a solid leader, and some additional shiny things to keep me interested.

From the hobbyist side, it’s a low model count army where you can paint four or five guys and be halfway done with a squad (or finish one of the smaller units).  Ogors are very friendly to learn on the tabletop and this box checks a lot of boxes for me.

And that wraps up our review of the four Age of Sigmar holiday bundles.  Stay safe, be kind to each other and enjoy the hobby however you like.  As a reminder, the allocation for these bundles is astonishingly low, so if you want one, order them as soon as you can, otherwise you may miss out.
