Into the Motherlands (Show Premiere)

Hey everyone, we’re back with a very brief rundown of Into the Motherlands RPG that premiered Oct. 4th on Twitch.  Powered by the Cortex system from Fandom, and telling the story of lost explorers, Into the Motherlands is something that we haven’t seen before in the RPG livestream community.  The cast and crew are all black and/or POC and it’s a space that this cast and crew have created for themselves in our larger community.

It’s wonderful, and this season of the show is only 12 weeks long. Week 1 was Session 0 for the cast, and we, as an audience, got to sit and learn about these characters while they were being made.  The Cortex system is a beautiful engine for a lot of different game styles but this type of Science fiction feels absolutely perfect for it.  I can’t want to see more behind the curtain looks at the system as we see the next 11 weeks unfold.

The cast, consisting of Krystina Arielle, Deejay Knight, Michael Sinclair II, and Tanya DePasshave shown us part of the world of Musalia with the characters they are inhabiting in this game, and we’re still watching to see how these characters will interact with each other and the larger game universe around them.  Eugenio Vargas is everything I want to see in a Game Master.  He presents a calm exterior that exudes confidence in the system he’s running while presenting ideas and options to the players at his table.  This group of people feels absolutely the right choice for showing off this world to the rest of us.

The Development team led by B. Dave Walters, consists of Sharan Biswas,Gabe Hicks, Jasmine Bhullar, Tanya DePass, and LaTia Jacquise have created a world that wants to be explored, that wants it stories to be told, and i personally haven’t see a game setting in a long time that tries to pull me in so many different directions.  I can’t wait to see more of this world and a part of me really hopes that this team publishes this setting for  the Cortex system.

The production team is doing wonderful work on this show.  Vanessa B. and Will, “Black Oni” Wiggins are producing tremendous art assets for the show and Leoni keeps the show running.  It’s a really fun show to watch, and I want to see what happens next.  That’s the best thing that a fan can hope for with any medium, and Into the Motherlands does an excellent job of keeping the audience hooked on the action.

The show is live at 4 p.m. PT every Sunday for the next 11 weeks, and is hosted on Twitch.tv/CypherofTyr.  I’ll be keeping an eye on the exploration of Musalia and the journey these characters take as they explore this world.
