Cliff Notes version of The Sokolov Family Outing

So this is a rough outline for a story that takes place between the end of DFA Season 2 and the start of DFA Legacy (at least from the perspective of Team Sokolov and some of the characters from Legacy).

Origin
After the end of the conflict on Zathras, the Emperor hires a small group of mercenaries to engage in a limited conflict with the Taurians on the border.  This is a super black ops operation, and the mercenaries know that if they are caught, they will be disavowed by the Zathrans and listed as pirates (or worse) to the MRBC.

They don’t care, this mission is a personal one for them.  Near the end of the conflict, “Cotton” Parks is killed by an agent in the employ of the Taurian Concordat government.  As Amelia Parks’s adoptive father, and an old family friend of both the Emperor, and Kade and Mac, this devastates the Renegades.  They, along with NIkolai Sokolov (and one of his comrades from the Dragoons) embark on a mission to find this agent, and to give him or her the justice they so richly deserve.

Cast of Characters

Kade (played by Sarah Sanders-Ode):  Radical Mech Genius, pilots a Frankenmech of her own construction.  Attached at various anatomical points to Nikolai.

Mac (played by Steve Wolbrecht):  Kade’s cousin, solid mechwarrior and veteran of the traveling Mech show circuit

Amelia “Smalls” Park (played by Lisa Coranado): Adoptive daughter of “Cotton,”  Short fused, piloting a Victor named “Hugo.”

Nikolai Sokolov (played by Matt Shimkus): Former member of Wolf’s Dragoons, currently on Zathras for a bunch of different reasons.

“Whisper”: Zathran Intelligence agent who accompanies the Mercenaries and provides all their field intelligence.

Ivan Kirov:  Old friend of Nikolai’s.  Holds a bit of grudge about losing his arm at Misery.  Not in the best of shape when the story starts.  Giant of a person.

Henry Jones:  Mercenary Commander, Archeologist, probably a spy.

Synopsis
The Renegades (plus Ivan) depart Zathras aboard the Union class Dropship Rambler.  Following up on leads discovered by “Whisper” after the crisis at the Zathran Castle Brian, they head towards Taurian Space.  While in transit, a lot of interesting interactions happen including a love hate grudge that develops between Ivan and Amelia, Kade and Nikolai talk about their future, and Mac seems to find himself walking into rooms where people are having sex without knocking.  It takes the Renegades a couple of months to make contact with “Brahma” a colleague of “Whisper.”  This leads them to an unmarked system on the border of Taurian/Davion space where they find a Taurian staging post.

It turns out this used to be a Star League era listening post that was used to stage the Invasion of the Concordat during the campaigns in the Periphery. This means it boasts a full Castle Brian complex complete with resources far in excess of what the Renegades are capable of hitting head on.  It’s also the headquarters of the Taurian intelligence officer who put the entire Zathras campaign into play.

Ivan’s oddly specific knowledge of Star League engineering allows the Renegades to breach the facility but they are captured on route to dispatching the Taurian who Amelia ultimately blames for the death of Cotton.  With little hope, they attempt a break out of the facility, but are caught by the guards attempting to escape the prison complex.  Then all hell breaks loose.

Ivan, (suited up in his Elemental Battle armor for the first time since Misery) leads a point of Elementals into the facility on a rescue mission.  He is however bombed out of his mind on Necrosia during the process.  The unlikely arrival of Henry and his battalion tips the favor for the Renegades.  The Taurians are routed, but they leave a bunch of booby traps on their way out.  Amelia, Kade, Nikolai and Henry run him to ground on the other side of the world (Mac is injured in the fight, and Ivan and his people secure the Castle Brian complex).

The firefight is terrible and takes the form of a running gun battle over the course of a week.  They finally run them to ground at a concealed drop port and as the Taurians are on their way to evacuating, the Renegades hit them head on.  The battle is bloody and almost everyone is shot of their mechs.  Amelia finishes the fight by decapitating the Intelligence officer’s Banshee with the Autocannon on her Victor.

The battered Renegades return to the Castle Brian and are shocked to find that Henry’s entire Assault Battalion has moved in to secure the facility while they’ve been gone.  They make use of the captured Taurian Overlord, and split up a literal ton of cash, spare parts and stolen Taurian equipment.  Kade and Nikolai are married in a quick ceremony, Amelia is the Maid of Honor, and Ivan is the Best Man.

The Mercenaries, loath to leave the Taurians a resource as useful as a Castle Brian, detonate the complex with tactical nuclear weapons and leave it a blasted crater.  On their way back to Zathras, they are betrayed by a Taurian agent within the Zathran Government.  The captured dropship is shot down by local aerospace fighters killing Henry’s sister, and all of Ivan’s remaining friends from the Dragoons.

The embittered Renegades almost go to war with Zathras, but instead retreat back into the Inner Sphere, turning up on Outreach.  Ivan and Amelia become a frequent couple during this time, as do Henry Jones and “Whisper” who leaves the Zathran government after the death of his friends.

This should give you a solid idea of where Ivan, Henry, and Whisper fit in with Nikolai, Kade, Mac, Amelia, and the rest of the Renegades
