Combat Patrol: Drukhari

The new combat patrol format of entry level products for Warhammer 40,000 has given us some interesting choices so far in how to construct an army for new players. The Drukhari are up this time around and they have a brand new box to get budding archons into the fight. Let’s look at the contents of this new boxed set so you can think about joining up with the Dark Kin to raid real space for fun and profit.

2021-2022 Armies on Display Project

Hey Friends, Fans, Longtime readers, we're doing something a little different this week, we're going to preview the Armies on Display project we as a fan community are putting together.  It's a full scale army project with a display board. It's supposed to be fully painted, and it will be showcased in pictures, videos, articles, the whole kit and the entire kaboodle.  I know it sounds like a lot of work, and it absolutely is, but the good news is we're not expecting you to have completed submissions until November of 2022.  That's right, you've got 20 some odd months to prepare the project and get it ready for prime time.

We're going to have worksheets, articles, and demos coming out regularly to help you get the process started.  This is open to everyone, and we welcome your participation. Guidelines and rules will go up next week, and we will be putting up some questionnaires to help you get started.  We'll see you all a little further down the road.  Until then, Have fun, be decent, and stay tuned for more updates.  Also share this post with your friends.  The More the Merrier.

Tools of the Trade (Miniature hobby tools)

Morning Game Fans, we’re back with another article on getting started with miniature gaming.

This is a follow up to our article on New Years, and it’s going to continue the trend we established at getting you ready to put together your first miniatures.  We’ll cover the painting in another article (probably several as the painting could occupy entire volumes of work). Now let’s take a closer inspection at the tools of the trade that any prospective model builder should have in their toolbox.

Craftworlds Painting Project Log #2

Hey game fans, we’re back with another article on our Hobby project for 2020. Today we’re going to talk about Colors, and the paints we’re going to be using for this project. Most of this project is going to be using the Contrast line of GW paints. These are a lot of fun and I have had a decent amount of success with in the past. So that’s how we’re going to run most of this painting project. Let’s take a look at the base of this project and then go into some details.

Wraith Army Project Section 1

Hey Game Fans, this is one of the many articles that will be part of my feature for the year on my new Craftworlds army project. Now, this is a big project, full of ambition and hilarity. The goal is to have the army ready to take to Gencon at the end of July this year. Now assuming that this all works out, this army project should be ready to go well ahead of that. First things first though, let’s talk a little bit about Diabetic Retinopathy.

Citadel Contrasts (1st Looks)

Hey Game Fans, we're back with another article taking a look at something near and dear to our hearts.  They've been out in the wild for a couple of weeks and we finally got our hands on the new Citadel Contrast paints.  They have been hyped to the moon by Games Workshop and the news is good so far, but we finally got our hands on them and couldn't wait to give them a test.  Let's take a closer look at the two projects we've started with these new paints

Age of Sigmar 2nd Edition Battle Report (Video coming soon)

Hey Game Fans, we’re back with something we want to do a lot more of in the coming months. The Wook and i got together and played our first game of Age of Sigmar, 2nd Edition. The Warhammer Store in Lawrence, Kansas was kind enough to host our game and give us permission to film the game, so keep your eyes peeled for the video to get posted soon. Now i’ll be the first to admit that we don’t know what we’re doing and we’re learning the game as we go. We only managed to get halfway through the third turn, due to some time constraints and the needs of a tiny dog, but from our engagement, i have some thoughts. I’ll get to those after i put down the lists and go through what happened during the game.

Age Of Sigmar 2nd edition (First Thoughts)

So we’re about a week out on the official release of the Age of Sigmar 2nd edition and i have to admit that Games Workshop is doing an impressive job of rolling out this edition of the game. They have made a lot of very smart choices for this release and it feels like they have learned lessons from a few of their stumbles in the past and are applying those lessons as they roll forward. The new core set is up for pre-order and it has a host of bells, whistles, gadgets and other doodads that feel like a lot of fun. I’m not going to go over everything, but i am going to talk a little bit about the big points (Soul Wars, Core Rulebook, Malign Sorcery, General’s Handbook 2018) and their implications going forward.

Quick Update

Hey Game Fans, Just a quick hobby update (Day Job has been eating time, so not a lot of articles so far these last couple of weeks). The progress is being made on the Seraphon and the T’au. I have the base coats laid in on the Saurus Guard, half of the Saurus Warriors and two of the four Dinosaurs for the army i have. I like the way it looks, but i need to do a couple of fixits before i go to the wash stage. After that it’s highlights and maybe basing.

The Lions of New Caliban ( Warhammer 40K Lore)

Hey Game Fans, today we’re going to talk a little bit about one of my favorite subjects in the Universe, the Lore of Warhammer 40,000. There’s a lot of it, from the earliest days of Rogue Trader, to the Horus Heresy, and even into the new frontiers created by the advancement of the story that ties into the 8th edition of the game. Two things to keep in mind for Warhammer 40,000 is that there really aren’t any good guys and the battle being fought is a war of attrition.

Getting Started with Miniature Wargaming (Organic Growth)

Hey Game Fans, we’re back to talk about one of the aspects of our community that i really enjoy. Building a community that supports and encourages game play is a fantastic thing and can pop up for any type of game. Leagues, gaming clubs, Historical Societies all lend themselves to providing opportunities and access to gaming spaces and materials. Some game companies are very hip to this and go out of their way to provide agents who can demo games, visit stores and conventions and serve as brand ambassadors to represent the fun and the activity that goes into the various aspects of the game. We’ll talk about those a little later, today we’re going to focus on the organic growth of a gaming club and how these things can bloom into fun.

Oh The Fun We're Going To Have

Hey Game Fans, we’re back with hopefully what starts off of a brighter week than the one we endured last week. There’s a ton of interesting things and forward progress being made by people all over the hobby and we’re going to talk a little bit about what’s coming up from us the rest of the week. So Buckle in for a trip in the Rambler, because it’s about to go a Ramblin’.

Store Experience: Warhammer Lawrence

Hey Game Fans, we managed to get our expedition to check out the new Warhammer store in Lawrence, Kansas off the ground this weekend and the Wook and i made our pilgrimage to the promised land. For those of you unfamiliar with Kansas, the eastern half is nice with trees, grass, and water. It also has an abundance of large towns/cities/suburbs. Lawrence is about a half an hour west of the Kansas City, Missouri/Kansas City, Kansas metroplex. It’ also about 45 minutes east of Topeka. The other important fact to keep in mind about Lawrence is that it’s home to the University of Kansas, and it’s transient population of about 50,000 students every year. This is a pretty solid place to open up a Warhammer store in my opinion.

Absolute Insanity (Miniature Wargaming)

So we’re at the point of my hobbying where i want to try something new and add something different to my miniatures collection. First off, i have too many miniatures that i will probably never use and am unlikely to finish painting. Some of them will end up getting cycled into other projects and will see double duty. These are things like my chaos cultists from Warhammer 40K getting painted up and used for a variety of Post Apocalyptic games where i can use some rad scarred human survivors. A lot of my space marines are getting sold because i just don’t need that many any more. Some small bits and bobs will get saved, and i will likely end up with a rule of three approach.

Warhammer 40,000 (decisions decisions)

So the wonderworkers at Games Workshop are at it again. I have an on again, off again relationship with their games, and at this point in my life i’m more of a modeller (a bad one) and a painter (okay one) than i am a serious gamer. I played a half dozen games of 7th edition, and i have to admit, i haven’t gotten in a single game of 8th edition yet. This means a couple of different things for me. First, i have seen the shiny new models and really haven’t been that tempted. I have several armies already in progress, and though i would like to pick up a Magnus and some supersized Lords of Change at some point for my Tzeentch Daemons, they aren’t essential.

Army Rebuilding Project Part 3 (WTF is a bits Box?)

Hey Game Fans, we’re back with another article taking a look at Warhammer 40,000’s 8th Edition, and how we’re going to bring our 7th edition (okay, mostly 6th Edition) army forward.  We’ve gone over the rundown of our Deathwing army including what units we have, and the likely purchases we need to make soon.  Check back on the other two articles in this series Here and Here for more details.  Then i did some cleaning last weekend and found my Terminator parts Bits Box and cried a little inside.

Warhammer TV Live Streaming Events

The fine folks at Warhammer TV did something that we around the office have been hoping they would do for years.  They live streamed an Age of sigmar tournament that was being hosted at Warhammer World (the shop/bar/museum/entertainment center/oh my god it’s so pretty) in Nottingham.  Streaming war games has become increasingly popular in the last couple of years, and there are some excellent places where you can catch live streamed games.  You can also catch others on Youtube, but that’s a different article.  So how did those plucky chaps at Warhammer World do for hosting their first live stream?  Let’s dig in and find out.
