A Beginner's Guide to Classic Battletech (Review)

Hey Game Fans, we're back with a review of something I find very endearing. Over at itch.io, a battletech fan has created A Beginner's Guide to Classic Battletech, by Kyle Reimergartin. Even my old ass 30 some odd year veteran heart found joy in this.

This entire document is only a booklet of 12 pages and was written by someone with joy in their heart. From the sing songy lyrics to the cat drawings (and these are plentiful), everything about this guide is fun. BattleTech, charitably, is a dense game. Guides like this are an excellent way to introduce your non war gaming friends to the game itself.

Now, this isn't a complete rules set, but it will get you started with Initiative, movement, and shooting. Notably, It omits the heat scale, and Critical hits, so you'll have to add those in with additional games played (oh no, more reasons to play BattleTech, how will we pass the time.)

Overall rating, 4 stars

This is a fantastic accessory for Classic Battletech and if you want to get your friends into the idea of BattleTech without overwhelming them, this is a great starting point. You can get it on Itch.io here
