Hey Folks, we’re back with another look at Aces. Today we're going to look at setting up for your first game of Aces and looking at the Guided Tutorial mission from Scouring Sands. Buckle up and grab your box and we'll get started.
For this, you'll need the following:
A 48" by 48” playing area.
10 trees from the Alpha Strike Boxed set
4 medium buildings from the Alpha Strike Boxed Set
4 small buildings (same source)
The Archer, Warhammer, Phoenix Hawk, and Locust from the Alpha Strike Boxed Set
The Timber Wolf and Pouncer mechs from the Alpha Strike Boxed Set
The mechwarrior C Command Deck from Aces
The Brawler And Sniper AI decks from Aces
Dice (Note, Aces uses the Multiple Attack Roll rule, so you'll need more than one set of dice
Alpha Strike cards for the 6 mechs above
Tape measure/measuring tools (the Scouring Sands box has two of these for short distances).
Dry erase markers for tracking damage.
I'd also personally recommend a comfortable chair and a drink
Now, it's time to set up the battlefield. Fortunately, the Sortie sheet has a diagram laying out exactly where things are on the field. Note: the small squares that make up the larger squares of the map are exactly 4 square inches across, letting you nail down distances on terrain features. This also helps if you knock something over during play.
Now, play the scenario as the book describes. This will walk you through the game process and get you started with Aces. We'll be back with some pictures of an in progress game later this week. Cheers
