2021-2022 Major Hobby Project

Okay Everyone, we are going to do something splendidly ridiculous because it will be a major motivating thing of absolute awesomeness. We are going to be doing an Armies on Display (Legally distinct from Armies on Parade) as a community. I know, some of you are thinking why the hell would we bother to do something when AoP is right there and I’m here to tell you why in 4 or 5 easy steps.

  1.  Armies on Parade is scary. No really, the idea of submitting an ENTIRE army project to be judged by the people who paint this stuff all the time is absolutely terrifying, and puts an Immense amount of pressure on the people participating, and not everyone has the capacity to deal with that kind of pressure. So this doesn’t have quite those stakes and as such, everyone can dial things down a few notches and relax and enjoy the experience.

  2. We are not experts. None of us would claim to be a professional hobbyist and to be honest, i am not that great of an artist.. The goal of this project is for us all to put together a display project that showcases our talents, favorite armies, and what we view as the most enjoyable aspect of the hobby.

  3. Motivation is hard. Getting to grips with this particularly daunting task is a hell of a mountain for some of us to climb and so this project (and the peer pressure of all of our friends doing it) is intended to inspire each other to complete an entire army project. Using each other as social supports, we will all finish this task together.

  4. Time is a hell of a thing. The reason we sort of collectively decided that 2022 was our target year is that time management isn’t the easiest thing in the world and most of us have other jobs/hobbies/vocations that keep us moving. Giving us this much lead time (and someone stepping in as a project manager) should give us a better-than-average chance of succeeding at completing this project.

  5. Things are fun. This is a collective experience that we can share as a group and hopefully give people an activity to look forward to working on in the new year (and the year after). By the end, we should have completed an entire army (and a snazzy display piece for them) and hopefully we’re all vaccinated and can go out and play games with our brand new armies.

Now if you're interested in taking the plunge, Sign up for the project here. There are going ot be additional worksheets and other articles to help you get started with the project, and the official kickoff is March 31st. Now have fun and enjoy the hobby. We'll catch up with you all again soon.
