Ivan and Amelia (DFA Legacy)

Ivan felt the chill run up his spine as the holofeed connection ended. Can’t go back now he smiled softly as he thought about everything he’d done to get to here. The Exodus Road, the Dragoons, zipping around the Inner Sphere, he’d spent his life chasing one adventure after the next. Then Misery, and Zathras. His face darkened as he thought about everything that had happened there.

“Ivan, what did you do?” Ameila asked him quietly. How long had she been standing there…

“I just told the Ilkhan of the Clans, my supreme leader, the greatest lie that anyone will tell him in his life.”

“Why?”

“It is the only way,”

“Only way for what?”

“I made you a promise. I made one to Nikolai and Kade as well. The meditations are getting harder for me to understand.” he said slowly. Vara was sitting in his lap, how long had she been there?

“You know that i support everything you do, but the Necrosia is a terrible thing to put your body through, Ivan.”

“I know, but i have been following the visions my whole life. They led me to Zathras, and to you.” he smiled softly at his wife.

“We have been having a lot of fun for the last twenty years, haven’t we?”

“It has been a lot of fun.” he nodded at her.

“Why did you lie to the Ilkhan?”

“The Jade Falcons...they are twisting the knife for Kade.”

“What?”

“For as much as my people lay claim to being a warrior society, there are an awful lot of politics tied into the way our culture works. The Falcons have the advantage of being allies of the Ilkhan and that gives them the ability to be a bag of dicks to the other side. Someone has singled out our friends, as members of clan Wolf for torment.”

“Can’t the Wolves fight back?”

“Not right now. The Crusaders are currently dominating the council, and even if Nikolai were to issue a challenge, the Ilkhan would quash it to spite Nikolai’s superior, Ulric Kerensky.”

“How did Nikolai get sucked into this?”

“Someone has made it a personal mission to cause grief and turmoil to the Sokolovs. I am not sure entirely who, but i would like to have a chat with that person.”

“Ivan, how does that affect what you told the Ilkhan?”

“The Ilkhan needs to be at a specific place at a specific time for things to turn out right. I had to get him to move the direction i needed him to go, and that meant i had to tell him what he wanted to hear. The Falcons and the Jaguars are overestimating their gains and the ease of their conquests. I needed the Ilkhan to push up the timetable and demand more results from the Invaders.”

“Why?”

“So that they make a mistake. We are spectacular warriors, but we are not unstoppable. Our people, with the wrong operational tempo, can be pushed past our limits and forced into untenable positions. I needed Leo to demand more results from the Invaders. He wants us to return.”

“Us?”

“Me, you, the rest of my people.”

“Why?”

“I suspect he wants to know what i know, and what help i can provide the Invaders in finding specific weaknesses in the Inner Sphere. He also wants me close enough to advise him, i think.”

“What are you going to tell him?”

“That i will meet him at Radstadt, as soon as our people can make their way there.”

“Why Radstadt?”

The old elemental smiled softly. “It’s where the visions are going. If we can turn the universe to our will, if even for a moment, we can bring everyone together again.”

“Old Friends we haven’t seen in a long time. The kids, new friends and old.”

“You need to rest and take care of yourself.”

“It’s almost over now.” He smiled softly at her

“What is?”

“The end of the beginning. The pieces are moving, i hope Hayden forgives me the tiny deception. It was necessary.”

“Ivan, you aren’t making sense, honey.”

“It is the necrosia.” The old man’s hand slipped off the console and his eyes rolled back. The last thing he heard was Ameila’s voice screaming for the medics.
