Flynn's Castle (DFA Legacy)

Somewhere, in the Periphery
3036

Flynn let out a slow sigh as he he activated the command console. The ancient doors still had power, and the codes spun the ancient locking mechanisms and the doors slid open. The personnel doors opened easily enough, but the heavier mech scale doors didn’t have the power needed to move the servos. Ivan led the rest of the Elemental Star into the facility ahead of him, and he was waiting with the rest of the Seekers outside while they checked for booby traps and other remnants of war. Twenty tense minutes passed before the all clear order was given.

“What’s it look like in there, boss?” Flynn said slowly through his headset.

“There was a hell of a firefight here, looks like the Republican Guard penetrated the facility before the Regulars locked it down. Some dead infantrymen, some broken down mechs, sniffers are detecting very faint traces of chemical weapons.”

“Real common tactic for the Republican guard to seize a place like this, you can’t hit them with orbital fire, and nobody brings enough nukes to drop one of these on the first day. If you can get to the air processors, you can chem the place.” Flynn answered him grimly.

“Ugly ways to die.” Ivan answered him. “Bring in the technical crews, i want a damage report and a full inventory done in two days.”

“Two days, boss? This place is a massive installation. I think it’s the logistical head of operations for both 11th and 12th Armies, and it was an operations centers for the Special Forces Command.”

“Are you telling me you can not get it done in two days?” the voice on the other end of the radio was not amused.

“We will get it done.”

“Good, I will have EOD techs and combat engineers clear the hallways and start sweeping the area for anything else.” Harlan said quietly to Flynn.

“Maybe we can get the main computer up and running, that will help a lot.” Geri added.

“This isn’t a Port Castle, so i don’t expect to find a spaceport in here, but we’ll see if there are any aerospace assets clanking around.” Rikki smiled at him.

“I’ll start checking structural integrity and seeing if this place is going to hold.” Flynn answered his friends.

“Worse case scenario, this place is on the verge of collapse. Best case scenario...holy treasure hoard.” Flynn heard the call over the radio. That was...Amelia. Flynn didn’t like her.

“Let’s get to work.” Ivan directed traffic from his suit of powered armor.

3 days later

Flynn was going over the initial reports from the survey teams and this place was a rich haul of treasure. 1 entire division of battlemechs were still in storage. Evidently the safeguards had sealed that vault and the Republicans hadn’t been able to figure out how to get in. It had taken him four and a half hours to crack the vault, but it had bowed to his superior knowledge and was full of equipment that they could use in the Inner Sphere. The Special Forces Command section of the base was equally untouched. The rest of the base’s equipment had been scavenged, but the superstructure was intact.

He handed the report to Ivan and waited for a response.

“Current estimates put the capacity of this facility at being able to store roughly 3 divisions of battlemechs?” Ivan’s eyes darted across the noteputer.

“About that, with mech gantries and the maintenance facilities to keep them operational. Deep Storage, i am not sure how many mechs we can store in shipping containers.”

“Capacities for Elementals?”

“None intrinsically, but we could put in the racks and gantries for them, why?”

“I can see a time in the future when we will need a place to rest and recover from the battles raging around us. This world isn’t on any system charts the Inner Sphere has access to. We only found it when we compared our star charts to the Comstar ones. This planet is not even on their maps. With this facility, and its impressive capabilities, we can have a refuge.”

“Logistically, we are still missing a lot of pieces. If you want us to be independently operational, we’re going to need hydroponic farms, upgraded power facilities, an HPG assembly…” Flynn started running down the things.

“Make the list, and I want you to oversee the construction and expansion plans. I will give you some target numbers and ideas, but I want this facility ready to shelter us by 3045.”

“That’s a lot of manpower and material resources, do we have that kind of man power laying around?”

“You tell me what you need, and i will make sure it’s available to you.”

“Affirmative, Sir.”

“I am also going to need you to construct some sort of space port outside the facility. We can not build a Port Castle without compromising the bedrock. Seekers will be using this facility as our central collection point. The servers will be full of data collected by us, and the storage areas with artifacts we find.” Ivan said firmly.

“What about Snord?”

“Fuck Snord. He has been insufferable since 3018. Everyone else is another matter. Some of the Seekers are operating in company sized detachments, and I will be reviewing all of those people very closely to determine how far we can trust them. The ones i think are appropriate will be invited to this facility and we will go from there.”

“What about Jones?”

“Henry is good people, I will let you know when he is going to show up. Besides, if we can convince an assault battalion to hang around, i think that will turn out well.”

“Very good, Sir.”

“I am trusting you with this, Flynn, because you are the most well versed Mega-Engineer i have on staff. If i can pry some additional experts loose, they will be coming to assist you.”

“I will not fail you, Sir. This is going to be a tricky project, but I am looking forward to it.”

“Good, dismissed.”
